After the baby cradles, all our bed models are traditionally stable. It is difficult for people to change their habits with age. But the younger generation, nontrivially equipping their rooms, are increasingly turning to hanging beds, sofas and armchairs.

For southern countries, such a model, in general, is not uncommon. If it is difficult for our compatriots to change their usual bed for a floating one, you can try hanging the bed in the country, on the veranda or on the terrace. Without trying different options, it is difficult to understand on which bed you sleep better and healthier.

Characteristic

Hanging beds are sleeping place, suspended from the ceiling or fixed to the wall by the headboard. Such models do not rest on the floor, leaving it free and untouched. You can install a similar structure in the bedroom, children's room, in the attic, veranda, even on the street under a stable awning. Teenagers love to sleep under the ceiling and are happy to introduce a hanging bed into the interior of their room in an ordinary city apartment.

But such furniture looks more organic in country houses and in places of rest.

The attitude towards the hanging structure is ambiguous, since it is still a novelty for our interiors. Such models, along with positive characteristics, contain negative aspects.

Let's start with the pros.

  • The biggest advantage of a suspended bed is in an unusual and extravagant appearance. The bed becomes the center of the design idea of the room and radically changes it.

  • Lack of legs under furniture simplifies cleaning.

  • Design withstands people of any weight.

  • Rest on such a bed gives feeling of lightness, airiness, akin to being on a weightless cloud.

  • The space under the structure can be decorate with a carpet or lighting. This will add mystery to the extraordinary bed.

The disadvantages include several points.

  • Complexity and responsibility of installation, which is better to be entrusted to a group of professionals. For a safe stay on the bed, the mountings must be as reliable as possible.

  • Subconscious distrust of strength patterns can cause disturbing sleep. But this refers to a short period of time.

  • Hanging beds cannot be transferred.

  • Dismantling leaves footprints on the ceiling.

  • With a hanging bed it is impossible to install a suspended or suspended ceiling.

  • The design requires periodic technical inspection.

Someone considers such a moment as rocking a positive quality, and someone negative.

If rocking is undesirable, the bed can be secured with the headboard to the wall, while the effect of floating above the floor remains.

Views

Hanging beds, although they are not widespread in our country, the number of species is huge. Such furniture can be classified by purpose, location, shape, style, material, method of fastening.

By form

Most often, the sleeping bed has a square, rectangular or round configuration.

  • Square models refer to double beds. They can occupy a place in the center of the room and be suspended from chains or ropes, or they can be located near the wall.

  • Rectangular products are either single or double. They are located fixed against the wall, or suspended from the ceiling anywhere in the room.

  • Round beds look more extravagant... Especially often, the shape of a circle is used for garden models, creating natural configurations of hanging beds in the form of cocoons, nests, drops, balls.

By appointment and location

By purpose, hanging products can be divided into two categories - for daytime rest and for sleep. The second option contains full-fledged single or double beds, which are installed in bedrooms, in children's rooms of houses and apartments.

We propose to consider a few examples.

  • The beds, located at different levels, are for two children. They have a combined fastening, that is, they are held by ropes and direct fixation to the wall. The constructions are in the children's room on the attic floor.

  • Floating wooden bed in the interior of a minimalist bedroom... It has no swinging effect, as it is attached to the wall by the headboard. The backlighting of the floor lamps emphasizes the weightlessness of the bed.
  • A lifting model is suitable for small cramped bedrooms, which, with the help of a mechanism, lowers the structure during sleep and lifts it to the ceiling during the day.... The bed is fixed on the ropes.
  • A full double bed designed for a night's sleep, located in the attic floor bedroom.

Products are presented much more widely for daytime rest. They are installed in summer cottages, verandas, terraces, on racks in the open air - near pools, in gardens and on playgrounds. The category of day rest includes models of various designs, shapes and materials. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with some of them by examples.

  • Provence style chain-link beds are made of pallets. Provide a pleasant outdoor day in the shade of the covered terrace.

  • Another example of a homemade pallet construction that allows you to relax outdoors.
  • The simplest and longest used sleeping place for a summer cottage, garden or hiking is an ordinary hammock, which is stretched between poles or trees.
  • The bed, which looks like a bird's nest, suits beautiful creative rooms. Such products are good for eco-styles.
  • More models, reminiscent of round bird nests in shape and weaving, are snugly nestled between the trees.

Suspended products in street conditions are attached to poles and trees. There are other ways of fixing. Manufacturers today produce a variety of models on ready-made, sturdy stands. We offer examples of some of them.

  • Hanging garden bed under a textile awning. Held with chains and wooden arches.

  • The bed is attached to a curved wooden frame using macrame weaving.
  • The swing bed is designed for two interlocutors. The design contains separate beds located opposite each other.
  • The rattan chair bed on a round stand is very convenient for outdoor recreation.
  • The cocoon model is similar to the previous design, but has its own awning that protects from the scorching sun.

Design examples

Hanging beds for our interiors are so unusual that they themselves become the main design element, building the entire furnishings in the room for themselves. A large selection of hanging models allows you to stylize them for any interior or garden:

  • the shabby chic terrace furniture resembles an antique bed;

  • a cozy product of rustic Provence, surrounded by a mysterious forest;

  • a fantastic flight of a bed in a minimalist bedroom;
  • the rough base of the bed and chains as suspensions are characteristic of the direction of the loft;
  • a floating bed in an unusual modern interior;
  • beautiful and austere bed in oriental style.

Choice

Before choosing a hanging bed, you need to know exactly where it will be located, for what purposes it will be used, and how old its future owner is.

If the owner of the bed is a child, and it is intended for a night's sleep, choose combined models, tightly fixed to the wall, without the ability to swing. Cables or ropes can be used as additional fastenings.

For an adult, for sleep, suspended models with a ceiling mount or floating versions with a deaf fixation to the wall are installed. It all depends on the preferences of the owner of the bed. Anyone who loves wiggle before bed will prefer a ceiling mount.

Recreation structures, the so-called street options, are purchased for gazebos, verandas and terraces, sometimes they are installed in the garden under the trees. The furniture industry produces a large number of ready-made structures on strong and reliable racks.

When choosing outdoor beds, you should pay attention to additional amenities in the form of awnings and mosquito nets. The most budgetary options for garden products include a regular hammock.

Mounting features

Hanging beds do not have a stable base, so their anchorages must be extremely reliable. Such a structure cannot be installed independently, even if it is assembled by hand. The suspension mechanism requires assistants, and it is better if they are professionals.

The choice of a place for hanging the structure is influenced by the possibilities of the room. The height of the hanging above floor level is influenced by the height of the owner of the bed.

There are only three ways of fastening floating structures - ceiling, wall, combined. Let's consider each of them in more detail.

Ceiling

Before installing the ceiling mounts, an accurate load calculation is made taking into account the weight of the bed and adults. The structure is capable of swinging, so it is hung at a safe distance from windows and walls.

The bed can be anchored with durable alloy anchors directly to the concrete ceiling. If there are beams, it is more convenient to use them for mounting the product.

Fastening takes place at one point in the center, in two or four positions. The latter type is much more reliable. A structure fixed at one point is more mobile, it is used for round surfaces.

Chains, ropes or metal cables are used as suspensions. Chains look rude and are used in industrial design interiors. On the ropes, the models look more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. But the most reliable suspensions are cables.

Wall

These types of hanging beds are attached with the headboard or sidewall to the wall, thereby losing mobility. The constructions create an amazing floating effect, the illusion of which is enhanced by the lighting under the bed.

Combined

These types of hanging beds contain two methods of fastening at once - wall and rope. On one side, without touching the floor, they are firmly fixed to the wall and motionless, on the other side they are supported by ceiling ropes.

Sometimes the ropes are directed not towards the ceiling, but towards the wall, only above the bed.

This fixation method is applied to small single beds in children's rooms.
