Elon Musk says universities are more for fun than learning

At the recent Satellite 2020 conference in Washington, renowned scientist, philanthropist and billionaire Elon Musk sharply criticized the modern higher education system. He stated that universities these days exist only for the entertainment of students, rather than for their education. The head of SpaceX stressed that, despite the current requirement in his company for job candidates to have at least a bachelor's degree, he does not consider this a necessity. Elon Musk noted that there is no need for modern colleges, because if desired, each person can learn everything he wants. At the same time, higher education institutions, according to Musk, only impose their discipline on students and force them to do annoying, meaningless homework.

Elon expressed the hope that he will be able to convince Tesla's Board of Directors to cancel the mandatory university requirements for employment in the company, since it is absurd - the main the criterion for evaluating a candidate should be only his exceptional abilities. Elon Musk cited Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as examples.

It’s like he taught himself at home and is now so smart and rich. Remember your classmates: who did not study, but simply pulled him, so as not to spoil the statistics. Where are they and who do they work? Yes, there are also among them who woke up from laziness, but all that they did not learn at school, they learned later, having spent a lot of time on it. At school and university, this could only be taught by having fun. Learning is light, and ignorance is a little light and to work. It’s impossible to talk to an uneducated person. Apart from what he was told to do, he knows nothing. And how will he know if this does not happen. There will be no schools and universities, there will be no smart people, and there will be no society.
